I am the one and only helicopter mechanic at the Tarrant Regional Water District, so unfortunately not hiring right now. Not until we get a second helicopter in 2013 or 2014. I don't have first hand knowlege of anyone hiring right now, but you should check all the helicopter places around the metroplex. I know Uni-Flight at Grand Prarie Airport is busy. Careflight's maintenance base is there, too.Rotorcraft Services and Air Center Helicopters at Meacham.

If you're interested in relocating, Tinker AFB in OKC has been hiring a lot of people lately. I'm not in the aviation field, but from what I understand, the pay is great and you don't have to work that hard. Typical government job, I guess!

Yes, it is possible. Pay will not be as good, and probably fewer options. It will likely be harder to get started, too. You'll be competing against lots of folks with their license.

I would encourage you to get into it, but you'll go further faster if you go to school and get your A&P first.

x2 you can do this work but your limited. With an A&P it opens many doors. tuition has gone up quite a bit since I went to school. My tuition was 11k back in 97. Now your looking at over 20k but most schools have financial aid if needed.

Stay with avionics they get paid more than A&P's.

Avionics man WITH his A&P makes even more than both, add an IA to that rating and write your own ticket. Side work possibilities are endless, as well if you have an A&P/IA.
