I'll apply when I see something. Been getting burned out with IT and sitting in front of a computer all day.

Sorry if this has been posted. Is there an interview process before training or is that incorporated in the training? In other words is it a possibility to go through 18 weeks of training and not get the gig? Inquiring for family member.

The interview process is before the training. During the 18 weeks of training you can be fired for any and everything. You will also be tested on the material several times a week and if you dont score 85 or higher you wont have a job either.

Realistically, how difficult is the material? I am not doubting said persons wits or smarts, but I would be having my brother come from Florida. Yeah, it is a "chance" but I would hate to give them a hook up only to be out the job he has been at for a while.

Also what all is involved and typically how long does it take to advance Engineer?

I asked my cousin who works for UP about this and he told me to find a diffrent carrier.
You remember the stories John use to tell us about the the three chinamen playing Fantan? This guy runs up to them and says, "Hey, the world's coming to an end!" and the first one says, "Well, I best go to the mission and pray," and the second one says, "Well, hell, I'm gonna go and buy me a case of Mezcal and six whores," and the third one says "Well, I'm gonna finish the game." I shall finish the game, Doc.

You will find about 20% of UP employees that bitch, moan, and cry about everything like you cousin does. Ask your cousin this, if UP is such a bad place why doesn't he quit?

Because he's been doing it for so many years I guess. You work for UP right? He's name is Eric Lowry, if you run across him at UP ask him yourself.

Probably because he doesn't want anyone taking his job? You can't complain about something if you're not going to do anything about it.

He actually told me it was a good company to work for. It was the Conductor/Engineer side he swayed me away from. Mostly because he's always gone and never sees family. He said management would be a good fit for me but it's going to take alot to get me to leave my goverment job.

Always gone? Why doesn't he take a yard job, be home every night, and make even more money. As far as management, almost every manager was a conductor/engineer before moving up to management. They are all promoted within the company so don't worry about trying to get into management at UP. Not going to happen.

Ya, because if anyone doesn't like it, it's because they have the problem, not the RR, right?

                            What a fucking douche...
