If I could do it over I would go with stained concrete in living/dining/kitchen, and wood in game room/office. Carpet in bedrooms"You don't so much drive it, more like poke it with a sharp stick and channel the fury when you piss it off."

Flooring
I installed hardwood floors for a few years when I was living in Houston... There are many types and styles to choose from... What price range are you wanting to stay in? How many square ft are you going to be putting hardwood floors in? What subfloor are you going to be laying it on?
I would suggest a snaplock if you personally are going to be installing them since you don't have experience... Snaplock doesn't require glue or nails it a floating system... I can answer most questions you have about the purchase and the install... As far as the demo goes have fun...
