  • Bought a Chainsaw Today

Stihl MS 391. Gonna cut down some dead aspens tomorrow around the house.

Anyway, it's my first chainsaw, and I'm excited about it. That is all.

That should do it. Have a new 251 myself. The new fuel efficient saws are a step above their old counterparts

Got one of those, too! Sharp as all get out. I mainly use it for shaving my face and trimming my toenails.

I thought that was what the chainsaw was for?

Nah, he uses the chainsaw to groom his pubes.

This thing rocks. I just cut down about a dozen aspens ranging in diameter from 3" to 10", and it was like pushing a hot knife through butter.

Nice! We have a 291 and it's been a beast. Every other chainsaw we have, we have to fight with to get started. Need to get a lighter Stihl with a shorter bar for smaller stuff. The 291 can wear you out quick.

Don't leave fuel in it, and keep extra chains on hand and it will last forever.

If ever having an issue with bar getting oil, just bore out the oiler port (EPA hole). I found the small stock ones tend to get clogged easily.

Nothing runs like a Stihl. I love mine. Always use the Stihl chains (and keep a few extra so you don't have down time). Oh, and if you're going to cut much, get one of the electric sharpeners. I have one that will run on AC or DC, and it makes sharpening chains a breeze.

I really don't think I'll use it much, but it's something I wanted to have around for those occasions when it is needed. I figure any man living in the mountains should have one.

I did cut some dead aspens around my place, and still need to go out and cut those into smaller pieces. I'll take it with me in my truck when doing any serious trails and/or camping. You never know. There are plenty of remote narrow roads and falling trees is a very regular thing around here, so I'd hate to be 20 miles in and not be able to get back out because a big tree fell across the trail behind me.

As easy as it is to use, I probably won't cut much of my own firewood for the house with it. I can get cords split, delivered, and stacked for $200 each, so it just doesn't make sense for me to do it myself. Heck, I have enough wood here now to last me 3-5 winters.

It's probably a little big and heavy for what I really need, but I always prefer to have more than I need vs coming up short. This is supposed to be the best model they sell without stepping up to the professional models.

It was between this and a Husqvarna, which I understand is basically like the Ford/Chevy thing. I almost went with a Husqvarna, because I could have ordered it through Amazon, but I didn't care much for the case they make for them.

I got the case, some bar oil, and some synthetic oil to mix with gas. They have a deal running right now where you get a two year warranty instead of one when you buy the oil and stuff with it at the same time, so I did that.
