  • Laminate Wood Flooring

Been thinking of getting rid of the carpet in my bedrooms and replacing it with Laminate Wood Flooring. Don't know too much about laminate wood flooring but I do know that they have different size thickness of them. What should I be looking for? Don't want the cheapest stuff, basically looking for the best bang for your buck if possible.

I have some cheap traffic master from home depot installed in 80% of my house and we get compliments on it all of the time.

The keys to a quality installation are a level floor and a good quality pad. If you are planning to install yourself, floating the floor if necessary will be the hardest part. Check it with a straight 2x4 for high and low spots. I used floor muffler underlayment and the only places where you can't tell it isn't a higher priced product is where I have a few uneven spots in the floor.

If you are looking for cheap/durable flooring that looks good check out snap together vinyl. I was against it at first but went to a buddy's house and complimented the laminate floors "these are vinyl". I've laid about 1500 sq feet so far in my house that I'm remodeling. We actually ripped up laminate to to put this down.

Doesn't need the undermat, can lay it right on the slab.

Looks good. I'll have to take a look into it when I start shopping around.

GED's Flooring off 360 in Arlington/GP is where I bought my stuff. I didn't like what they had at homedepot/lowes.

Check out the Lawson brand. It's what I've used in my house and it's holding up well with 2 great danes and a 3 year old.

We went that direction too.. Also waterproof (we have it in the bathroom and kitchen too).

We went with the Allure by Trafficmaster from Home Depot.

Some pics of mine are in this thread..

Many of you are on Lea or my Facebook, so you have probably seen most of this, but for the rest.. We finally got our counter-tops and back-splash redone, after putting it off for years. I refurbished the original cabinets years ago, we just never got around to finishing it. How the cabinets looked when I bought the house

Edit: Maybe.. They don't seem to be working on my phone, the links may be bad now.

Been reading more on that snap together vinyl that you guys mentioned. Seems pretty good. This will be in my main house and worried how it will hold up down the road. I've had bad luck with other types of vinyl flooring in the past that I used in my rental property.

Finally had a chance to swing by Home Depot and took a look at the vinyl snap together flooring. Looks pretty damn good to me and very durable. Brought home a couple of samples of what they had. Problem is that the color I actually like is pretty much the same color as my bedroom furniture. I don't know much about decor but just seems like it wouldn't look that great with my bedroom set since it would all blend in as one color. I'd either have to go with a dark brownish color or something light. Don't want to choose the wrong color and then be outdated a few years down the road. What do you fellas recommend?

Wood looking floor tile is awesome, but too pricey for a house I don't plan on keeping more than 2 more years. I'm putting down 12mm laminate from lumber liquidators and like it so far, I did my formal dinning and office with it about 4 years ago and it has held up great so now I'm doing the living room. If you keep an eye on lumber liquidators site you can usually catch a sale.

                            This is what I'm laying.

I was planning on going with laminate but after the guys above mentioned the vinyl snap together flooring and actually looking at it in person I'm sold on it. That stuff seems pretty damn good. Prices were a little more in my opinion, at least at Home Depot. Ranged from $1.99 sq/ft - $2.99 sq/ft. Choosing a color will be the hardest part for me.
