The speed queens are commercial grade and built in the USA (Wisconsin).
We got ours from McNeils in Denton. It has the stainless tub and 2nd rinse. We do 4 to 6 loads most days.

Are you guys sure you can't swap the hinges? Pretty sure you should be able to.

Top load whirlpool. Have had current set around 12 years now with no issues. Before that I had a set that my dad gave me that was 10 years old. I used it for 5 years before buying current set. It was still working when I sold it in garage sale.

Like mattresses I'm going cheap/cheaper from now on. Spent the money on a nice set 5 years ago or so and was not pleased with the washer breakdowns and repair costs. Ended up stripping it for parts. The drum makes a nice camping fire pit.

Dryer is still going, but I won't replace it with another higher cost drier.

After 5 years ours had rust all over the top part and the spring rods that hold the tub were weak causing it to sag and on the rinse cycle it started to wobble and the hose on the tub came loose and it kept trying to rinse for hours and flooded out house.

Subscribing. My 20+ year old Kenmores work great. In the last 3 years I've replaced a pump, motor, door switches on both, and they run like new again. The woman hates me for it, but I can keep those things running forever, for next to nothing in parts cost.

I just hate how loud they are in comparison to the front loaders. I would love to upgrade based on that reason alone, but I fear the parts cost on newer machines and whether or not I will be able to fix them myself.

I'll be shoppin soon for a set, the dryer has to run two 45min cycles before a load is dry. Everything I hear about front loads scares me.

Serious question. Why the hell have we not developed a machine to wash then dry?

Washers now no longer have agitators so all it would need is a heating element and a means to blow air into the tumbler.

You could leave for work and come home to dry clothes.

I have LG front loaders that are a year and a half old. No problems with them. Like others have mentioned, I leave my washer door open to air out.

FYI, don't forget to take out the shipping bolts......
