  • In Wall Speaker Wire

School me on in wall speaker wire!

What gauge is suggested ? I need about 200 ft.

    Media, and garage speakers only.

    I see a price diff between 14awg / 16awg ...

16 gauge is more than enough for 200 feet. I use it on a daily basis for my commercial installs without issues.

                      70v vs 8ohm.

                      Use 14awg

We don't do many 8ohm systems but it'll still work without issues.

That's what I'm saying. You can use smaller gauge wire with a 70v system.

Will it work with 8ohm? Yep

Will a larger wire be better? Yep

Unless you're an audiophile the difference will be so minor it's a moot point. If you're going well over 200, then yes, go with a 14 or even a 12 gauge wire. Besides, if you're running 5 or more speakers in a series or running a single channel more than 75 ft, you're better off with a 70v system.

Do we have anyone here who does home install work? I have a surround system and a second zone outside by the pool that needs to be wired up through the walls.
