Best Answer: can't answer without further control on the system. absorbed radiant heat will affect the standing water more than the running water if the running water is an open system (resupplied from outside the locality) both because the total mass of the water is much higher in the running water part of the system and because the water is refreshed from an external constant temperature source (the heated water exits the system).
However, two equivalent masses of water in equivalent vessels, one in motion and the other still, could see the moving water as hotter because of friction. Unfortunately, if the air is not saturated with respect to water vapor, the agitated water will also have a higher rate of evaporation, which has a cooling effect, and thus could be cooler under the right conditions.
So no simple answer. the system is poorly constrained (too many effects to considerWhos your Daddy?

Hooked the cooler up to the Polaris return for the time being and ran it for 4 hours last night. Yesterday the temp was 92 degrees; this morning it was 88. Will post in a couple more days with results.Originally posted by davbrucasI want to like Slow99 since people I know say he's a good guy, but just about everything he posts is condescending and passive aggressive.
Most people I talk to have nothing but good things to say about you, but you sure come across as a condescending prick. Do you have an inferiority complex you've attempted to overcome through overachievement? Or were you fondled as a child?
You and slow99 should date. You both have passive aggressiveness down pat.

A buddy told me he was looking into those and the cooling affects will have to do with humidity?
Maybe one of our many pool experts can chime in.WRX

My buddy has this unit and lives 5 miles away from me - it drops his 10 degrees after 2 or 3 nights.Originally posted by davbrucasI want to like Slow99 since people I know say he's a good guy, but just about everything he posts is condescending and passive aggressive.

If you are really interested in dropping your water temps you can only effectively do it 2 ways and the way y'all are going about it ain't one of them.
A high end heat pump that is reversible is one way but the retro fit cost (last one I did in June was 18k) can be high and they are energy pigs when asked to cool things off. The other way is to add shade; last time I did that it dropped the temps by 20 degrees in the middle of August and out of pocket cost was under 1k.Last edited by svauto-erotic855; 08-08-2015, 10:16 PM.Magnus, I am your father. The heat pumps are awesome but you rarely see them due to the high cost...In the 20 years I've been doing pools I think I have only come across maybe 10 or so already installed and most of them were only setup to heat the water

When it is above 50 degrees a heat pump is more cost effective then a natural gas heater for heating the pool but it does it slower. Cooling the pool is like having a 5 ton ac system running non-stop for a few days. Most of the big ones require a 50-70 amp service to be run to them. I spent $1200 on wire alone for the last one that I installed.Magnus, I am your father. You need to ask your mother about a man named Calvin Klein.
