I have the psw505 as well and it does a great job and bass response and it rumbles the house. I am thinking about getting another one to add to the badassness :P but i am on a budget. It sounds like you have a bigger budget which im sure there are better subs at a higher price range.
I spent 200$ on mine and i feel it does a great job as a 500$ sub would do, which ive heard as well.

Oh... I didnt mention, I got my sub from SVS's outlet. It has a tiny blemish on the back right corner that you cant even see. It was $550 vs $750-800 whatever the retail price is on their regular sales page. Great way to go

If you wait, they do run sales on outlet stuff from time to time. Still comes with a 5 year warranty and 45 day audition. Saves a little money. Saves a few hundred on their higher end subs.

Does anyone have any experience with a buttkicker style transducer vs a good sub 20hz sub for infrasonic enjoyment?

I too have the 505, but i keep wanting to pull the trigger on a SVS... I keep watching the outlet for a sale on a 13.

                  edit:
                  Well...shit..

I could have sworn they used to offer a lifetime trade up...but their site says 1 year now. In the next year, I may have to trade up the sub I gave my sister/bro in law to a 13 ultra and give them my pb12

I have always liked the Sunfire True subwoofers. Very small, with passive driver (no port) and rated at a theoretic 2700 watts they are/were a marvel of the industry. No longer being made, Bob Carver sold Sunfire corp and the models they build now come from China.

I have a 12" Signature model in my living room and a pair of 10" MKII units in my media room. The only down side is that these units are going on 10 years old now and many will need capacitor replacements or drivers have been thrashed from being beat on. If you find a good one you will never look back.

Dunno why but I have been looking into DIY subs...a martycube looks like a great way to go. Its a ported box (big) with an 18" sub. They are saying the performance would match some $2k subs. Looks like pricing is around $600 and a couple hours of wood work. Tunes to 17hz
