Well. Here's my experience today. Went to Lowes where my buddy works. Got me employee discount. So I tried a troybilt 4-stroke 31cc straight shaft. Got a very of deal on her. Got home. Added the supplied oil to the reservoir, filled up with 87octane. Says to pump bulb 10x then hold trigger down and pull cable 5x. After about 5 minutes of a BS workout on this turd, it finally started and stayed on. I got the front yard trimmed. Shut it off. Mowed for the first time with my Husqvarna 725AWD with no issues. Started on first pull. Very powerful. Grass was super long and dense; this husq didn't miss a beat.

Went to restart the troybilt to do the backyard. I could never get that fucker to start AND stay on. Just like my initial experience an hour prior. This time, it wouldn't stay on for more then 3 seconds. Took that POS back. Drove to Home Depot after speaking with my buddy Patrick (use to be a member here). He told me to inquire about a reconditioned Echo straight shaft. They had a mint Echo SRM225 for $150 ($219 new). They also had a SRM230. Welp, they had it mismarked as a blower. I pryed, and they said they would honor the $150 for it since if was mismarked. SRM230 are $289 new, $195 reconned. So, I got me a quality Echo for 150! It starts and runs like a champ. Thanks for yalls help. I'm quite happy with this echo.

I got 10 years out of a Ryobi 2 stroke. I had a few accessories to go with it so I bought the Toro 2 stroke version 3 years ago which has an additional bearing on the crank which should make it last a little longer. I researched the 4 stroke models at the time but did not like what I was reading so I got the 2 stroke. Starts every time.

TruFuel for the win- They make it in 40:1 or 50:1 ratio and never had one problem with starts in any of my equipment even after sitting all winter

I see your problem, you're paying too much. I went for years with a reconditioned "Weed Eater" brand from Northern Tool for $35. The store in Bedford always seem to have a special on reconditioned units every year.

I've had horrible luck with reconditioned shit from Northern. Especially when it's Poulan. Just keep pullin'.

I went back and forth at the beginning of the season between a 2 stroke or electric (I wouldn't even consider 4 stroke). I finally settled on the echo straight shaft and it has been great so far.

I bought an EGO 56v 15" dual feed trimmer two months ago, and that thing is a beast. Fuck gas forever, seriously. It has more power than my STIHL and ECHO did, not to mention wonderful speed and line control. I owned a Toro 24v for about five years prior to this EGO. It was a great trimmer, but was a single feed and did lack power. However, it made up for it with accuracy and control. I've since switched over to electric everything now. I have an EGO 56v mower and 56v trimmer. The 56v blower rivals that of any gas blower. The first time I had the trimmer out I fucking wrecked my yard trying to control it (it is very powerful). It takes some skill to use as it does not handle like a gas trimmer. It has an incredible amount of low speed torque, so it has a tendency to try and fight you at higher speeds. I trim my lawn at a very low RPM, hardly any noise at all when I'm trimming. The neighbors probably think I'm practicing with my trimmer off. I've never ran any of my 56v tools out of batteries, even mowing my lawn twice with heavy grass and forgetting to charge in between. The EGO batteries (2 and 4 amp) will charge in 25 minutes. I had to knock down some 3' tall weeds behind my shop and I took it down to dirt in about 20 minutes and never ran out of batteries... Any gas trimmer would have been bogging down doing that kind of work. No more smelling like gas, screwing with chokes, pulling cords, cutting out at weird angles, spilling gas on your pants, mixing oil/fuel, separate fuel tanks, garage that smells like gas, or wearing ear plugs. After being a big gas proponent and now experiencing the latest of the high end electrics, anyone who buys a gas trimmer for home use is a chump. I do not envy you! If you can afford it, do it. You won't regret it.

I had a Troy bilt 18v weed eater and it was okay, a little weak for some areas and the battery case ended up splitting on me. I bought a 40v black and decker because it felt the best and it has been working great for me. It came with a leaf blower too, but it's not that great.

That's a good pickup, I had the SRM225 for 6 years and the only thing I replaced was the the trimmer head every 2 years or so. My fiance's mom uses it now for her 2 acre lot and its still going strong.

Nice. I will be going this route when my gas components fail.

I got an Ego trimmer a few weeks ago, it is a lot different than gas, so far I like it. Used to feathering the throttle on a gas one, kinda useless on a battery powered one.

I just wanted to say. After CJ's recommendation, I bought an Ego 56v, dual feed 15" trimmer from HomeofdePot. On sale for $219.99 and I'll use it for the first time tomorrow after I get a good charge.

                                Thanks man.
