My sprinkler box was mounted on a wall without an outlet on it. The previous owner tacked an extension cord half to the wall half way around the garage to get to an outlet which is unacceptable. My closest power source is a box that houses 3 light switches inside it.
I ran the hot wire from new outlet to the back of one of these switches. I ran it to one of the available spots that you push the wire in and it locks it in place. Now when I looked in the existing box that housed the three switches, all of the neutral wires were tired off together with a cap and all of the grounds were tied off together as well. But none of the nuetral wires or grounds ran to any of the switches.
So I ran the ground from the new outlet to the existing bundle of grounds and tied it off and then ran the nuetral wire from the new outlet to the bundle of nuetral wires and tied them all off as well.
Is this safe/ correct?
How come all of the nuetral wires and grounds are all capped together but none run to any of the switches?
All 3 switches work as they should and the top and bottom outlet had constant power regardless of the position of he switches so it appears to be working as it should. I currently have the breaker off until I get some feedback
Thanks
