  • Brick paver patio

Has anyone done one? Not installed, a DIY. I am looking for the correct material for the base. I found what one yard is calling 5/8 chip and said it was crushed granite. I am planning a 4" compacted base, 1" of sand, and then the pavers.

What is the reason for thr pavers. Ground should be good just compact the ground good and add sand.

This is one project Id pay someone to do... you really need a good base, sand and compact the shit out of it. Nothing worse than a wavy patio that holds water.

Don't think I didn't entertain having someone do it! It came down to tje choice of pouring concrete, or doingvthis myself and having a nicer, albeit smaller, finished product. Other than moving everything from the front yard to the back, it shouldn't be too bad. I have decided to leave the existing 4x8 patio, and go over top of it. This will cut down on the amount of digging, as well as base materials needed. I have about 1/3 of it excavated already. Hoping i can have it finished over the next couple of nights and get the base material delivered Friday. I just need to decide if I can get thr appropriate material locally!

You just need an Aggregate base. Mixture of chipped rock (usually granite) and dirt. Compact it, either by renting a gas powered compactor, or by hand, which would be a lot of work and not as well compacted.

Buy a couple of 1" diameter pvc or conduit and lay on top of the aggregate base equally spaced, then poor sand on top. The pvc/conduit is used as a depth gauge when screeding the sand. Ensures the same thickness throughout the pad. Once screeded, remove the pvc/conduit and fill in the void with sand and trowel smooth. Then get to laying pavers! Cover with joint sand and sweep into all cracks between pavers, and you're done!
"Laws that forbid the carrying of arms...disarm only those who are neither inclined nor determined to commit crimes...Such laws make things worse for the assaulted and better for the assailants; they serve rather to encourage than to prevent homicides, for an unarmed man may be attacked with greater confidence than an armed man." - Thomas Jefferson, 1776

Thanks. I plan to spray the area with round up and cover with weed cloth before starting with the base. Trying my damndest to get 3 yds of base delivered tomorrow. None of them want to deliver such a small quantity and I can't find anyone with a trailer able to haul it!

Polymeric sand FTW on top for the joints- no wash away no weed issues like with sand

I had planned on using polymeric sand. I don't want to have to keep re-packing joints.

I am having trouble finding someone who can/will deliver what I need this weekend. I have everything dug, sprayed, and covered in weed cloth (fuck the good stuff is expensive). Does anyone have a dump trailer or dump truck and want to take a trip out to Greenville this weekend? Lol
