  • Anyone own a Kreg Jig system?

I'm thinking about getting one to build to some garage cabinets. I really like the idea of being able to utilize pocket holes and screws opposed to brads and staples. It looks like some careful clamping would be required in some applications to keep things perfectly lined up when you screw them together, but I can live with that.

Anyone have any experience, likes, dislikes, worth the investment, pile of shit?

The Kreg Pocket-Hole Jig K4 combines precision and adjustability of a proven, time-tested pocket-hole jig trusted by DIYers and pros. The three-hole drill guide lets you make perfectly placed pocket holes in a wide variety of material widths and thicknesses — from 1/2" to 1 1/2" in 1/8" increments. Plus, the hardened-steel drill guides come with a lifetime warranty. An included dust collection adapter connects to your shop vac to keep your workspace dust-free. The K4’s rear-mounted clamp was introduced with the first Kreg Pocket-Hole Jig, and the design offers incredible rigidity and uncompromising workpiece holding strength. Adjustments are as easy as releasing the locknut and rotating the clamp pad to the correct setting. The K4 is made from impact-resistant polymer for strength and durability that Kreg customers expect. A wood-chip relief hole for each drill guide keeps the drill bit clear of excess debris, minimizing drill-torque, increasing the longevity of drill bits, and allowing you to complete a perfect pocket hole in just one plunge. A large clamping recess makes securing your jig to your workbench easy using Kreg multipurpose face clamps or any common bar clamp or C-clamp. Alternatively, the K4 can be screwed into a workbench or other surface.

Don't even hesitate, that's all quality stuff. my dad uses that same jig on his furniture, and he's building/selling expensive stuff. I dont know if any of his how-to's cover using the jig, but you can look around on his site. alexofhouseworx.com

No, but I'd love to. I've heard NOTHING but good things from pros to DIY'ers like myself.

Well, looks like this is a no brainer. On another note, when did birch 3/4" 4x8 plywood become $50 a sheet? Holy shit.

I've got the pictured jig and have used it a handful of times. I'm very happy with the quality of it all. I've used regular screws when I ran out of the Kreg square drive ones that come with the kit and the only thing I don't like is that I need more clamps to keep everything lined up during assembly.

I bought the smaller one last week. Haven't used it yet though. I'm about to build a bed frame to see if I can do it or not.

If I fail miserably, I can just burn the evidence.

I have the smaller version. It has worked very well both times I needed it. I give two thumbs up.

I have the offbrand harbor freight one and love it. The HF one is actually all metal and not plastic so thats why i picked it over the kreg brand.

Ive built a fair amount of decent furniture and its been pretty much irreplaceable.

Get a 20% off coupon and its only like $55. But i will say the screws that come with it are trash. Go get actual pockethole screws If you go with the HF brand.

Ended up getting the newer K5 from Rockler yesterday. Clamp is now in the front and has arms that extend out to the sides. Came with a free automax 3" face clamp. Also got the Kreg 90 degree clamp and a Freud melamine blade. Decided to use melamine instead of plywood. Cheaper, no need to paint it and found it in the same gray color that I painted the rest of my garage cabinets.
