We had to pull all of our baseboards. We were replacing carpet and whomever installed that put the baseboards in first, basically on the concrete, and butted the carpet up against that.

Also undercut the doorjams to get the new floor underneath it using one of these:

We used the "Allure" product (looks and installs like laminate, but no wood and 100% water resistant). No underlayment and it was pretty thin stuff. But very heavy and flexed a bit, which made it difficult to lock together in some places where the floor may not have been perfectly level.

        Very simple
Yes, 1/4 round is your friend. I re-trimmed our entire house using 5" base, so I installed my floor, then base, then paint and caulk

Or, run a razor flush with the wall to separate the existing caulking and carefully remove the baseboard. Label all of the pieces, clean off leftover caulk, repaint, reinstall and re caulk.

That works well if you are raising it, not so much to lower it!

It is doable, just requires more work! Especially if the drywall texture is non exiatent or messed up!

Same here. That is one reason I replaced all of the trim in our house. Going from old school 2" baseboatds to 5".
