I'm going to have to start my own thread for lawn assistance on my yard. I have St. augustine too but not planning on laying down new sod. Would like it to be thick as in the above pics though.

Most people I talk to have nothing but good things to say about you, but you sure come across as a condescending prick. Do you have an inferiority complex you've attempted to overcome through overachievement? Or were you fondled as a child?
You and slow99 should date. You both have passive aggressiveness down pat.

I have a couple of different issues with my lawn. First, the entire lot for my house is heavily shaded with mature trees. Second, my front yard is a constant slope downward toward the street so water can run off pretty easily. Third, I haven't been the best about fertilizing the lawn over the past years so this year I tried to take better care of it and had a soil analysis performed and with the results came back with fertilizer percentages best suited for my lawn so I've been using that since around April/May.
One thing I'm trying different this year is how my sprinklers run, so instead of one zone coming on and doing its thing for like 20-30 minutes I'm incrementing it. So, one zone comes on for 10 minutes, stops to let ground soak up water, then about 30-40 minutes later it comes on for another 10, stops, repeat until cycle is complete for that zone. I water each zone twice a week.

Yeah, the shade is a problem. Several of the houses all around my neighborhood have large trees in the front and lots of dirt spots where grass doesn't grow. I have a couple spots under a big Red Oak in the front yard that don't do so well. I've had recommendations for Fescue there but it isn't a big enough patch for me to bother with it.Originally posted by davbrucasI want to like Slow99 since people I know say he's a good guy, but just about everything he posts is condescending and passive aggressive.

Update pics! Almost made it through this summer. The 2 months of no rain really put a hurting on the water bill..but it has stayed a pretty good dark green with some stress spots here and there.
I cut the yard last Wednesday, dropped Scotts Max green 5k bag for the front and back and watered it in. I went out of town Thursday and got back Monday night to this!
It looks like I will have to mow at about 2.5 on the mower, drop it in a couple of days and mow again. But its sooo soft
