It is very rewarding getting to come home and look at a good looking yard your before and after and you did a good job on bringing yours back.

The best way I found to level out low spots is mixing some good top soil with Sharp sand. This has worked for me, but i only had a couple of lumps nothing lower than about 1.5 to 2 inches.

It has been a lot of hard work but it is very rewarding and finally working on something that is mine! Plenty of dirt work left, but with the rain, it is hard to do![/QUOTE]

I wish we had some big trees like that, but damn they are expensive. I got 3 15 gallon trees for 65$ each. My sod plus delivery was $645 for 4 pallets.

When I moved into my house 3 years ago, the yard was crap, no big front tree, stupid overgrown trees in the flower beds choking out anything else, etc. Well I had SEB remove the trees from the flower beds a while back, I now have some nice flowers and shrubs, etc in there. And this past weekend I planted two 30 gallon Red Oak trees by myself on Saturday. My yard is now being treated by True Green cause I'm tired of trying to fight the weeds (mainly dialls grass) and dead grass. It's looking soooo much better already, and by the end of summer I'm hoping to have a nice lush green yard free of weeds with some healthy trees and stuff.

        When we moved in:

After the trees were removed, and nice green grass:

        As of today:

I figured it up. At my cosy of $2.5/yd for sod, it would take $3000-3500 to sod my lot! That is with Tifway 419 bermuda. The front is coming along nicely and spreading very fast. I need to get the low spot right infront of my lead walk and along the driveway taken care of now.
Thankfully the trees are established. I had them trimmed a couple of weeks ago. I need to trim the ones in the back yard up. They are all on my neighbor's lots, but they hang 5-6' past the fence line and well below the top of the fence

Also, on filling low spots. Anyone planning to do it with bagged top soil. I have found that the stuff from Lowe's is better than Home Depot. I am referring to the cheap $1.49 bags. The stuff at Lowes, at least my local store, is from Hope, AR. It seems to have a LOT less organic matter than the stuff from HD. The stuff I have gotten from HD had a lot of tree bark/remnants in it.

They were here when I got the house... and yes, they take over.

I used bagged top soil from HD 1.49$ for 40lb bag and has worked well. You sure you weren't using mulch?!

That is a whole lot of cash! So is that bermuda in your front yard? Bermuda grows so fast, its crazy and it doesnt require a whole lot of water, which is what i like.
My neighbor put down Zoysia, but mine looks a whole lot better than his and he spent twice as much.

It was top soil, it just had a large amount of organic matter in it. Granted, it is going to break down over time and enrich the soil, but it makes it more difficult to work and smooth with a rake.

You may be getting something different than what I am getting out here!

I would be better off getting a load of dirt, but I don't want to have to deal with the clean up, the erosion of the pile with all of this rain because I can't get it all done in a weekend, and my yard is way too soggy to use a wheelbarrow. Hell, I got it stuck the 3 40 lb bags of top soil in it! Here is what i am working with in the back yard:

That was after a normal rain last fall. It has been MUCH worse since with the non stop rain we have had!

Yeah, it us bermuda. Looks a lot like what we lay on our new construction. It is spreading like wildfire right now! I have st. Augustine on the right side, part of the left side, and along the rear in the back yard. I am going to leave the st augustine on the right, kill it on the left and in the rear. I need to get the trees trimmed back in the rear to get enough light for the bermuda.

Right now, that picture from the front, the bermuda is thick about 10' into the front yard, from there I have some strong runners but a lot of that greenery is still weeds and crab grass. I have been pulling a lot, its easier to pull it and get the roots with my yard as soft as it is.

That said, does anyone have a miracle mixture for crab grass?
