  • Removing gold

My house was built in 85 and it has all the lovely gold accents on all the bathroom pieces. I can easily replace the faucets and what not but my shower frame is gold as well and it looks like it's rubbing off to a silver finish. What product can I use to further remove the gold coloring on this? Acetone?

Muriatic acid will take it down to bare metal, which will then rust, or you can paint it.

You will probably have to replace everything though.

Strip, scuff with 600 grit to give it a grain, clear coat

Not sure if it's the same thing but years ago I stripped the gold finish off a set of Moroso valve covers with oven cleaner then painted them.

Id just replace the shower glass with a new glass enclosure... frameless is the way to go

Same problem, I just replaced them. New inexpensive fixtures can be had at home depot. Bought an 80's born house with lots of gold bling. Light fixtures, ceiling fan metal, door knobs, faucets in bathrooms. Ugh. Just that polished brass look that was much loved back then for some reason.

Leave it. Save money to replace with new tub or just remove it

I kind of like the refurb idea. Scuff it, prime it, paint it. Maybe some tough appliance paint on the handles for durability. All this would get rid of the gold/brass look while also being cheap.
