  • I need a new shop radio...

The Sherwood receiver and amp in the shop are about 35 years old. Still works, but I can't get good reception on a station I care to listen to.
any suggestions ? Don't want to spend a ton. My speakers are good for now, but they're about 10 years old now...
I would like to listen to AM on occasion as well

LOL. I couldn't find my "jumper" wire with alligator clips the other day while working on a car. Racked my brains for 20 mins and gave up. Found them later that day attaching the antenna to the toolbox for some better reception.

            Shop radio

Buy a n after market radio/CD/USP type car unit. Get a 110AC to 12 volt DC power supply to run it. Mount it in the wall and add an auto type antenna. You can run speakers where you want them. I did one like that in my hot tub area and I can listen to AM, FM, play CD's or SD chips or even Zip or USB type memory sticks. My total cost was about $200.00 for six speakers and all. Bought it from E Bay, new in the box.

I went looking for a little CD player/ radio for the house and had sticker shock at $30-50 for a basic little cd player. Call me a cheap ass but I was expecting $15-20.

Stereo receivers are cheap on CL - everyone now wants 5.1 or 7.1 A/V systems now, then they dump thier old stereo units cheap. You can find some pretty nice units with a lot of power for $20-$50 bucks.

I have two of the Ryobi jobs that go with my 18v tools. I carry them around and use them everywhere. Patio, shed, garage, and they have great reception.
