Looks good. I'd lose the ceiling divide over the pantry door though, I think it would look much more open without it.

Without it, you could even relocate the pantry giving you more options in the kitchen.

Yeah, if it was tucked into the ceiling i'm not sure how well it'd hold up the second floor lol. height to that beam is about 6'9" before the 3/8 or 1/2 inch of rock. it sucks, but i think the benefit outweighs the sacrifice.

we would have to open up the ceiling to run the electrical to the other side and i'm not sure whether drilling floor joists is ok or not? i can talk to the guys about it tomorrow. if you look at the original renderings i had done the pantry is gone - i think that's still part of the plan right now but as im sure ya'll know things change on a whim.

What's the electrical for, just an outlet? I think where the pantry is would be the best spot for the fridge, easy access without having to go all the way in the kitchen.

dining room light and the other end of the 3 way switch for my kicthen light. since we mainly enter the kitchen through that opening, i couldn't sacrifice the switch. already gave up one leg of the 3 way switch in the living room

Drywall is going up. Still got a long ways to go but I'll be happy to have this beam in.
