  • Mounting TV on fireplace...opinions wanted..

We are about to get a new 65" tv and we want to reorganize and rearrange our living room. If we can figure out how to mount the TV above the fireplace it really opens up the room. A 65" will fit perfectly on our fireplace also.

My questions are about the fireplace itself. DO TV's get too hot when this is done. We do not have a mantle and our fireplace is one with a built in blower so it mainly blows the heat out into the room. We only use the fireplace 10-15 times a year too. Not like a nightly thing.

Also next question is how do you guys organize the rest of it and the cables. Attached is a picture of our fireplace and as you can see we are limited on where we can put the cable box and organize the cords and make them look nice...

We thought about a little caddy corner shelving unit in the corner of room with the wii, cable box, blu ray player etc on it. ... input ideas and opinions wanted.....

If you use the fireplace, heat and smoke need to be a concern. As for the box and cables, mount the box/Wii/etc behind the TV and have an outlet run to a plate in your ceiling right at the stone. I'd also recommend framing the TV.....the rest of your house is just too damn nice not to.

It's what I do with all of mine. It looks really clean and your devices should still read their respective devices.

Why not build a mantle to help with heat reduction?

We thought about a mantle but the tv is so large the mantle would basically be one foot above top fireplace...wouldnt that look funny?

Rojo have any pictures of yours?

I agree with needing a mantle. I think you'll have heat issues if you don't put some kind of barrier between the fire and the TV.

in addition to heat, I would be worried about smoke film or build up on the screen ?

So i have rethought about this quote a bit, and think I have decided to go with a projector instead.

The BenQ HT1085ST is a short throw so I can take out that old accent light and put an outlet there. All we need is a 70" screen to fill the fire place nicely. The old light happens to be in the distance range necessary so that the projector can throw a 70" screen just right!

Going to move current entertainment setup to the upstairs living room. Go with wireless hdmi with selector switch on base and see how using a projector daily works!

Even if it fails I figure I can setup an outside theater or use it to setup for movie night

went with the 65" tv and did wireless hdmi setup. Works perfectly, just have to do a little trim work around mount
