I haven't decided yet if I'm going to do it myself or not. Looking like I will do it myself just because of my budget. I've got 2-3 quotes so far and waiting for a few more. The final amount of $$ will make my decision of whether I'll do it myself or not
DFWM Shop Build GTG? Hell I'd come out to help, even though I don't know the first thing about structure building. As long as we had some people with true experience and knowledge of the right way to assemble the structure I'd be game to lend a hand.

That might work for me! I'd just have to stock up on beer and fajitas!

btw: didn't I get my intake from you?

as usual, the government has slowed down my income tax so I'm already behind on getting it started. I was hoping to start in the next week or two but they won't even take my return until Monday so we'll see. I'll keep you updated when I get the money in the bank!

They do a post from 40x60 here for $11 a sq/ft including slab (non engineered).

The weld together kits are awesome if you can weld or have a bud who can. A guy I know of charges $50/hr, but he could have the red iron up in a day easy if you helped.http://www.bloomberg.com/news/2011-0...tml?cmpid=yhoo

I added the link just so you could see the movement in Steel prices over the last few days and last four weeks. They are supposed to continue this trend through april. Possible that a $5k building could cost over $6k in a couple months.
I don't think we can do the pole barn here and we have to do an engineered slab. I'm not too good of a welder or I would look into going the other route.

What does the quote of $4.50sq/ft cover? 4" slab, beam width/depth, & what reinforcement? We have built 3 steel buildings on out property and they have all been purchased through Mueller.

Speak to Brian Ingram @ Mueller, he will take care of you and get you the best price your going to get through them.

For concrete give Brad Stevens with Blue Ribbon Construction a call. He may not be the cheapest on the block but he will do things the RIGHT way and wont cut corners that will cost you later. His number is: 214-354-8626

You can tell either one of them that Zach Smith gave you there number. Both of these guys are great and have really taken care of me so far.
I talked to brian yesterday. For some reason its a lot higher then the price on their website. I'm going to try to go by there or call today and figure out whats going on with it. The other place in the runnings is ameristeel in Denton and they are about the same price so far. Hoping to get it ordered in the next week so hopefully Brian can tell me why its so much higher than the web. I'll start calling concrete guys next week to get it rolling.

Better go buy it today because it will be even more tomorrow. They can't even give me a exact number on where it will be 2 weeks from now, just a range, so places like mueller quote in those ranges. Prices are the most volatile I have ever seen in the steel business for this time of year. Its 2008 all over again.

If they didn't update the pricing online since the beginning of the year then they have seen two to three price increases with another coming the first of March

I noticed the prices going up like crazy. Im ready to do it just need to button up the rest. luckily the quotes good for 14 days. I talked to them and they said the sale prices online are for more of "kit" buildings. since I want 12' walls instead of 10' walls its now a "custom" building. crazy to go up 3k for two foot of walls.

Either way now my wife wants me to redo the whole setup so I have to call back tomorrow to see if we can do 20x40 instead. Atleast I had the colors right!

You can never have a big enough shop, my Dad bought a house with a 40x60 filled it up and added another 24x60, now that is pretty much full too. If he kept the boat, jet skis and camper there he would be out of room for sure lol.

It doesn't matter how big a shop you have, you're always going to want more. It's just human nature for men.

That 24'x30' you're wanting to do is 720sqft, and that is going to be a really good sized addition, IMHO. You also might want to get in touch with your insurance company as I have been told that once you break a certain square footage threshold there may be increased insurance coverages for the second structure.

I'm actually in Oak Point so theres all sorts of "politics" It can be 799sq ft but at 800 all sorts of problems start coming up. thinking I'm going to do it 20x40 now and just cut a 1/4 inch off the end to make everyone happy
