  • Anyone add outside venting for a oven?

Bought a fancy microwave to put above the oven and it has instructions to vent it but the one that I removed was just a range hood and didn't vent anywhere

So how hard is it to add some venting to the outside? Cutting outside brick just doesn't seem all that fun.

Depending on location you could go out of the roof(not the greatest option). What some are doing is going into the attic and 90ing then going to either your heating unit vent or ht water heater vent and tying in there

Does it sit against an exterior wall?

Ya against an exterior wall. Cabinets don't go all the wall up so cant vent to roof.

You could use something such as this...

When I used to work on microwaves, most of the over the range units had options where you didn't have to vent to the outside. normally you just remove the fan cover and rotate the fan to blow out the front(just like the range hood did).

I personally used this kit for my exhaust vent in my bathroom and upgraded the pipe to aluminum and used band clamps to secure the piping. It should also work for a microwave as well.

Not my wheelhouse because it is residential, but I believe the new convection microwaves must be vented.

That's the part that I need if I can't get it to vent somewhere else. I hardly ever use the venting option but don't want to take this beast down once I put it up.

Well.... knock a hole in the brick, cut the osb, cut the insulation, cut the sheetrock, then cut the cabinet back. Its not that complicated but you will need some tools. A rotory hammer would be a great help.

Shows external or recirculating vent. If you are ok with it just recirculate it.

page 4 of the install manual

The microwave oven is set for recirculation installation. For wall or
roof venting, changes must be made to the venting system.
NOTE: Skip this section if you are using recirculation installation.
Keep the damper assembly in case the venting method is
changed, or the microwave oven is reinstalled in another location
where wall or roof venting may be used.
The pic in the manual is how I remember them being. The fan is a rotatable module so it can be vented back through a wall opening, up through the roof or forward to be recirculated.
                              .
