  • adding closet to existing room

I need to add a closet to the corner of a room. Never done it before and trying to decide if I should just pay to have it done or do my self. It looks pretty simple but not sure. Any ideas?

Are you building it so that you can come out of it?

I don't know that I can either. I hung Sheetrock once that's about the extent of my indoor building.

Its easy...but if you are looking for a spot to hang clothes, just buy an ikea closet organizer. A couple cabinets and viola, you have a closet.

Need to build something for the daughters room cause there's no closet. Actually looking for an antique wardrobe but I'm thinking they'll end up costing the same or more than building an actual closet.

Couple hundred dollars for an ikea setup which is actually really nice. Cutting out carpet, framing, drywall, tape/bed/texture, paint, hanging doors, etc isnt that fun

I would suggest the wardrobe option as well. Much more flexibility as her needs change.

That said, building a closet is a simple as framing a wall or two and hanging some Sheetrock. Not a big deal at all IMO. Toughest parts for me would be taping and then texture to try to match. Inside is very simple, just some shelves and rods.

(This is what I did for my daughter's room, although it had an existing closet. Expanded it to a double door and built out the floor and shelves ect.)
