  • Door locks.. anyone know "good" locks to buy

Well, we are needing new locks for exterior doors and going to buy hardware sets for all the interior doors as well. Started to look into some locks but ran across some somewhat disturbing amount of easy to break into locks.

So, we replaced the locks at the fiance's parents house a couple years ago because the locks were giving them trouble. Went with some Kwikset smartkey locks (thinking this is a great thing) to find out you can open them in just a couple seconds. See the below video (fast forward to 1:30):

If you go to Lowes/HD Id say 75% of the locks they sell are smartkey locks (Kwikset, Baldwin, etc). Reading up, Schlage used to sell some good locks but they took them off the market.

Anyone know some good locks to buy?

I have Schlage Camelot style deadbolts and they are just as vulnerable as Kwikset, etc..The only secure deadbolt is a single-sided deadbolt.

        Propaganda.

Not once have I seen a door lock picked on a burglary. About face and then a swift donkey kick and they are in. Just get what you like.

What about the deadbolts that use only an electronic pad... Im curious how reliable those are and how easy they are to break?

It's not the deadbolt that breaks. It is the flimsy wood frame around the dead bolt and the door frame itself. They have some longer screws and reinforcing kits but then they could just go break your glass.

I agree with you kicking in a door but if Im going to spend money...might as well get the best lock for the money. If dumbass criminals saw how easy that was...wouldnt you think they would at least try it before kicking in the door?

The only way to prevent burglaries is to have a dog with a nasty disposition and a dog door. Even that could be bi passed but I have yet to see it. If you have an alarm you just scare them away faster and they only get one TV and whatever else they can grab quickly. Burglars are all about quick and easy.
