Tons of good info in here, appreciate you guys. To clarify, yes I'm looking to have all new frames installed not just the glass.

I have thought about using HD or Lowes as I have cards for both which would make it hurt the wallet a lot less, but I have read that its generally lower quality products and installers. Any truth to this? The company coming Monday has an A+ rating with the BBB and have been in business locally for 25+ years. I feel like in this small of a town if someone were doing bad work word would get around fast.

This might be worth the $20 angieslist account...just look for a coupon code online.

The company that makes the windows HD sells lost over 56 million last year, and is expected to file bankruptcy.

The windows we put in are a lot nicer then anything you see at HD or Lowes. Smooth as butter up and down and no bars in the windows. I actually ordered them with the bars but they screwed up. I like it better now as it is just a cleaner look.

My house has bars on the front and none on the back. just make sure it exceeds energy star ratings for your area.

I had double hung windows put in by Window World. 4000 series, double pane low e glass w/ argon, lifetime warranty. Put in back in 2009. I think it was 2k for 12 windows installed. They're holding up great. 2 guys had they're work cut out for them with the aluminum windows that were in the house since '57. Those windows did not want to come out.

I recently went through Clarity Windows and got all my windows and my french doors replaced with a nice sliding door. I thought they were very professional and while it did take several weeks to get the order placed and the windows made and installed over all i was pleased.

I got the highest grade energy specs on the windows (Don't know the numbers or what they are called but its the windows with the gas between the panes)
The door was over priced i think but then again they are pretty nice and very sturdy.. but over all 7 windows in my 3 of them are double wide (2 standard windows together) cost about 3600 and the sliding door was about 2100.

I set it up on the 60 month Visa Home card with a 5% rate and pay rough 110 a month. But my electricity bill last year was $350-400 a month and this year runs about $150-$170

Biggest improvement I made on my French doors was tint. Mine face the west and the minute the guy put the tint on you could tell a huge difference.

                      you guessed it.

BTW, ABC is a roofing and siding company. I was working on a truck that my buddy bought from the bankruptcy of the window company that they bought windows from this weekend.

So i dont know where 23 windows came from, but there's only 15 in my house. Maybe i was drunk when i counted them

anyways the quote i got today was for double hung gas filled energy star screens included blah blah blah, 300-325/ea and that includes install. Lead time is 10 days to 2 full weeks. Install would take one day. That puts it at $4875 OTD.

I'm going to get another couple of quotes, but 5k is less than i had planned for (partially because of the poor counting i did) but i thought i'd ask what everyone else thought.

research the windows you are buying...dont just take their word for it. Gardenweb has a window and door forum with many professionals that give advice.

That's not bad for that many windows if they are good windows. Mine was close to that with only ten windows and solar screens. I have French doors all over the back of the house. From what I understand there are not that many places that build windows anymore. Both quotes I got used the same supplier in Texas and neither could get anything but white or off white. I had black on my house and they were no where to be found. Maybe that is just Texas though.
