At first I thought this was just surface rot. I was going to clean it out an apply wood epoxy but upon closer inspection I found this damage. Fortunately this is not a structural piece so it was easy to pull out and replace. The problem was the previous guttering which wasn't draining and allowing water to back up over the boards which were not protected by any fascia wood. I also need to have another look at the flashing to make sure it's doing its job..
Woohoo! I got everything done yesterday. Just waiting on my new gutters..
I'm really happy how the repairs on the porch turned out. But now that it is done, I think I want to redo the entire thing. The wife and I are thinking of taking all these columns down changing the design from whatever it is now to more of an Acadian style
Wow! That looks like a lot of work but it turned out great! Makes me feel extra lazy for not knocking out the little projects I have. We had to do 320 ft of gutters and I went and talked to one of the crews that were putting gutters on a new house behind me (they are building like crazy). They did a great job and were fast and I got it done for $900 cash. If anyone needs the info I can track it down. The other quotes I got were $1600 and $2200 and several other companies either wouldn't call me back or never showed up for a quote.
