So. I've been wanting to upgrade our kitchen from all of the contractor grade stuff it had when we bought it. We were at Lowe's the other day looking at glass tile and stainless steel tile for our backsplash and ran across a 'stick-on' tile that looked super easy to work with and without all of the other crap that comes along with installing tile (grout, tools, mastic, wet saw, etc., etc.) is pretty affordable at $9.99sqft. Our backsplash is around 30sqft. After talking to the Lowe's guy I decided I didn't want to fuck with all that crap so I asked about the stick on stainless steel stuff. He said he hasn't had any returns so of course I Google reviews and they are surprisingly good. Only problem is this particular Lowe's only had 2sqft in stock. I pulled up the Lowe's app on my phone and saw:
Fuck yes!
Now we just needed to find it. The guy called the Richardson location and they had 54 in stock. Off to Richardson. We get there and it shows $9.99 on the shelf, but has a ton. I show him the price on my phone and he matches it without hesitation and without me asking. Anyway, 30sqft@$2.00/ea is a STEAL, I was excited.
It's pretty easy to deal with and I stuck it right over the existing tile. It worked great. I'm still needing some new outlets and covers, but that's easy enough, I just haven't gotten around to it. You'll also notice that the cabinets are two different colors, obviously. We did the bottom cabinets with a Rustoleum Transformations kit, and haven't got around to doing the uppers yet. The tile on the backsplash is the exact same as what's on the floor in there, I hated it.
Various pics:
Not bad for a total of $65 and about 3 hours of my time.
