  • Getting grass to grow?

I have a small front yard, on one side we have a shade tree and nothing grows underneath it, NOTHING. I've tried seeding, I've tried starting sod and even that died. Watering hasn't done anything either.

Mckinney is currently on stage 3, water every other week. So any suggestions on what I can do on the cheap to get something growing?

You can still hand water. Sounds like you need St. Augustine and lots of hand watering for a while.

Why limit yourself to grass? Plant some kind of ground cover ivy that will grown in shade.

Get some metrodonite at home depot. Its what all the golf courses use that takes half the water to maintain. My buddy was having a similair issue and within a week he had a full green lawn. I think its like $12 for a 16lb bag

I had the same problem at a rent house. I never tried a shade specific grass. I had some st augustine around the edges but it would never spread into the areas that were dense shade.

This was under two big established pecan trees. Sun was minimal, early morning and a couple of rays that broke through the canopy late in the day

Have you thought about cutting some branches off the tree, maybe some dead one and open it up for sun to pass.

Zoysia - imperial, crown or geo varities should do fine in shade and has a fine blade that will look like a golf course if maintained

Yeah, what's your point? We plant river rock. And we never had to deal with HOA's, if we didn't mow, the hippies thought we were awesome.
