  • Outside faucet replacement

Any of you fine gentlemen had this done lately. Mine are the suck. The one in front is fairly decent, the one on the side has no top handle and leaks randomly, then there is the clusterfuck out back. The prior homeowners were kind of, lets say, half ass DIY people. When I was watching videos online and looking at Lowes it looked as if they just screw out from behind the wall? Is that right or am going to have to do some brick removing and soldering? I will probably farm this out. I know I want the no maintenance front ones that drain out and the back I just need re worked. It has a faucet handle, then a down pipe before that. The down pipe has a on off handle and was attached to PVC that went to who knows what in the middle of the yard. Well I decided to screw with that handle after I unscrewed the PVC I had cut off last year and now it drips. Plus I added a auto filler for my pond and well I just need this sorted out. That one should be just soldered on and then a new piece soldered on the bottom that can attach to my 1/4 hose. Any of you guys know about the cost of replacing all three outside or had this done recently?

On my old house I was able to unscrew one from the outside and replace it with no problem. Took a little time, and I turned the water off at the street, but it turned out fine.

You can replace the stems/seals and packing, rather than replace the entire faucet. If they are in good enough shape anyways. All of the ones in my house are threaded (built in 70s), but they had also been replaced at least once prior to me buying this house. I don't know what was there originally. However, if the female threaded elbow is not secured to a stud, you can very easily twist the fitting off, which will also fuck up the copper pipe. And it doesn't take a hell of a lot of pressure to do it, either. Don't forget to shoot new foam in around it once the new faucet is in.

It really depends on the type of faucet it is. Pics?

Exactly. I had one was all one piece with the handle. The stem had a rubber gromet on the end to stop the water. you had to replace the whole stem instead of just that grommet.

I've got the same problem, wonder what it is going to take to replace an outside faucet.

This is what mine looks like.

The back is just Fu bar because of the attachments. The side ones have the screw on tops with washers I just didn't see anything like them at HD. I have the main cut off wrench since I have not found my valves for the house yet.

All of my other outsides have this top on them. They just go into the wall differently like a more traditional faucet. I went out today and the damn fitting with the shut off valve is leaking as in starting to rust through I think. Flipped the handle down to shut it off and it slowed it down a lot.

Now that's some jerry rigged bullshit if I've ever seen it. lmao. I'd farm it out, just to not have to fuck with it after seeing that picture.

No shit. What purpose does the 1/4 turn ball valve at the bottom serve? Is there garden hose thread on the bottom of it?

Looking at it further, i see what they were doing. They added another pipe down, with a shutoff valve BEFORE the faucet so it could run independently. But why the fuck you would do that, i have no idea.
