  • Anyone here laid their own slab/porch extension?

I'm curious. I've always played around with the idea, but never really priced it out. I've build/set forms and done sub base before on other things, never done the whole process myself though. Has anyone in here? How did it come out?

Anyone on here do any building want to give me a quote? Needs to be reinforced for a 9x9 hot tub. Have a couple quotes in the works, but wouldn't mind giving the work to someone I know.

Yeah that's paying someone to do it, I was more looking for people who have done it themselves.

Hit up Sean88gt... He has put down thousands of feet of concrete with his workers (non concrete guys). I could have sworn he told me they laid a couple 6000' slabs in the past.

It's easy, with help. Shit sets up fast and an extra set of hands helps. You'll prolly also want to rent a float and a couple other tools to do it right. Are you gonna mix your own cement or have it trucked in? Trucked in is the way to go.

Yeah trucked for sure. I have never paid for a truck before, I assume there is an initial delivery charge and then it's by the yard?

from my experience, granted on a much larger scale, if You buy a certain quantity there is no trip charge. not sure if it is anything under 10 yards (full truck) or if there is a threshold.

I have a question, since I know nothing about this, are they supposed to drill and insert the rebar into your existing foundation? How far are they supposed to go if they do?

You get charged by the yard. Usually there is a minimum (say 5 yard minimum). If you take too long on site, they charge $1/min to sit there. You also need somewhere for them to wash out their truck.

Whats the largest concrete project you've done without calling in a cement truck?

                      Maybe some of those guys
