So is this normal for countertops or were builders drunk when they did this?

  • So is this normal for countertops or were builders drunk when they did this?

Working my way thru the remaining countertops and putting in granite tile little stumped it looks like the countertops at the wall go at an angle out. Is this normal? I'm attaching 3/4 plywood followed by cement board on it.

Also the piece by the dishwasher area is way off instead of correcting it the builder put in another small piece on top. Common practice?

So my question should I attach the plywood to the pieces already in place or get rid of those and make some kind of metal mount and level the plywood with the cabinets eliminating the angle?

That looks fucked up. I have heard, and I am no granite counter top expert by any means, that if the surface it is layed out on isn't pretty even, it can stress it and cause a crack.

Thats pretty typical home building...subcontractors dont give a shit and by the time you notice something aint right...they are long gone.

You dont need metal for supports, just simple 1x3 or 1x4 would be plenty nailed into the studs.

Thanks forrest... Im ordering 9 or 10 of those for my base cabinets. THe floor where the old fireplace was is about 1/4 high in the middle of the floor. I have been having hell trying to get level cabinets. Just ordered a self leveling laser too

Want to use these cabinets since they are 8yrs old?

So 1" wood nailed against the wall onto the studs would fix this situation but do I make it level with the cabinets or does it need to have a slope from back to front like these do? Guess it wasn't a big slope since I didn't even notice it on laminate.

Everything should be level front to back and left to right. There is no reason for a sloped counter in any direction.
