  • Elec. and tile work in Keller area

Anyone have a recommendation for getting some under cabinet lights and a new back splash installed? I don't feel like ever fucking around with tile after the last house! If one guy can do both jobs, even better!

It's roughly 18 feet long, 18 inches high for the tile area. Not a big job.

I feel you man. I did the tile in our house (16"x16" porcelain, freakin' heavy) and have actual blood in the job. Never again!

I'd like to get some lighting installed in the garage (4-6 8' fixtures, wired to a new switch) and 2 or 3 outlets added to a wall out there too. Same area, Keller, if someone wants to make a day of it, shoot me a pm too.

I'm curious to know what you're quoted, Rob. I did our back splash and under cabinet lighting, but I ripped everything down to the studs since I was removing old tile. It also made it easier to add outlets and hard wire the lights to a switch. If my regular job didn't get in the way, I wouldn't mind remodeling one bit. I'm interested to see what kind of silly money people want.

I joined Angies list to research companies for my latest remodel and it worked out great. It's only 15.00 for a 2 year subscription.

Were there actually usable companies in this area? I've thought about joining, but someone told me they couldn't find anyone in our area.

Tile install is around $3.50/ft last I checked. Of course that could vary depending on tile type.

Hmm, I've wasted more money on shit, may have to give that a go!

Lyn wants that glass tile that look like skinny bars. Not this color, but this style.

Venom, how does Angies List work? Do you say I need someone to do job XYZ, and they can email you or whatever, or do you have to search for specific types of work you want done, and contact each company yourself, based off others saying they did good work, etc.?

That may run you a little more depending on what the current backsplash is, what needs to be demo'd, etc. I've got a GC friend that said he can only get $3.50/sq ft for any tile installed. It's the same guy that has been doing all the work on my house. However, I didn't pay anywhere close to $3.50 sq ft for the tile he has done so far. I do need him to come back and do the 1250 sq ft of the wood tiles I have, and he's going to charge me $3/ft.

They have both. It all depends on how the company is set up with Angie'sist and what type of account you have. I usually just look at the top 3 based on reviews and get quotes from them. Most places will give you a discount if you mention Angie's list. With the marketing push that they(AL) is making right now companies are doing quality work because they don't want a bad review.

Did you have to demo any tile off walls, and were able to salvage the walls, Brent? I've never tried walls before, other than demoing the entire wall (shower/tub at old house? and replaced the drywall with cement board and tiled over that.
Wonder if the tile can be removed and not fuck up the drywall. Although, it's only 7 years old, it is probably crappy drywall and will fall apart!

I just had my backsplash done in the kitchen and they were able to save about 3/4 of the drywall. It really depends on how much thin set/glue was originally used. They had to replace all of it that was behind the sink. It was a small area so not that big of a deal.

If I was doing it in a shower I would put up hardiback anyway.
