Elec. and tile work in Keller area

I just had my backsplash done in the kitchen and they were able to save about 3/4 of the drywall. It really depends on how much thin set/glue was originally used. They had to replace all of it that was behind the sink. It was a small area so not that big of a deal.

If I was doing it in a shower I would put up hardiback anyway.

I was thinking it may even be easier to do the under cabinet lights if the same guy can do both jobs, then rip out the drywall and replace as needed. It's not a huge area, and not near any water so regular drywall will work, and be cheaper to replace.

I would not let them tile over regular drywall regardless if it's a wet area or not. They should cut out the old stuff, run your electrical, go back with hardie or fibrerock and tile over that.

Did you have to demo any tile off walls, and were able to salvage the walls, Brent? I've never tried walls before, other than demoing the entire wall (shower/tub at old house? and replaced the drywall with cement board and tiled over that.
Wonder if the tile can be removed and not fuck up the drywall. Although, it's only 7 years old, it is probably crappy drywall and will fall apart!

I did all the demo to save a few bucks. As you know we've got some major work going on over there, so I'm doing what I can to save. In my bathroom, I did all demo, put up new rock as needed. They came in and tiled the floor, shower, framed the soap dish recess, hung cement board, tiled the shower, and accent band. They also did all the tape, bed, and texture, and crown molding. $500 for all of that. I bought all materials.

In my kitchen, they replaced some Sheetrock behind and next to the fridge, removed two fur downs and put rock up to fill the void, tape, bed, tile, and grout on the floor for $600. Again, I bought all materials. We haven't gotten that far in the kitchen yet (back splashes). I'm still stripping cabinets, and we will buy the granite before we do the backsplash. I don't know how much, if any of that Sheetrock will be salvageable. It is currently 1/2 plywood with Formica laminate. Which means it is glued up. Which means, the 40 year old Sheetrock behind it will probably come off with the current laminate backsplash.
