These are my experiences. I hate waiting for shit to get hot over gas.

Maybe you guys haven't used a decent electric stove. Apparently, I've never used a decent gas one.

The gas stove we have now even has a "power boil" setting. It sucks.

My electric would boil a big pot of water in a jiffy.

We have an induction and it works excellent and clean up is a breeze.

I have an electric cooktop and electric tankless. I also have gas service at my house. I actually prefer an electric cooktop because while gas is nice, ever notice when you're really cooking a lot with gas it can heat up the kitchen pdq. I hate having a hot kitchen like that and I use the old school electric coils because the smooth cooktops can't handle cast iron.

I fucking HATE electric cooktops. Gas is a more gentle heat. Easier to simmer, etc. If you HAVE to have an elec cooktop, induction is the only way to go.

On tankless water heaters - It's been a while since I've done all of the research, but Rennai seemed to have the best reviews when I looked a few years back. Like I mentioned yesterday, you're going to have to change the incoming gas line from 1/2" to 3/4". Should be easy enough, as gas lines are usually overhead rather than under the slab. These units do require regular preventative maintenance like descaling, etc. One unit will be fine for your house. The only time you need auxiliary units is if you have extremely long water line runs. The further from the tankless unit it has to travel, the more it is going to cool down before it gets there.

Also, keep in mind - the hot water isn't "instant". It is extremely fast (within 10-15 seconds depending on line run), but when you turn a faucet on, it still has to clear the water in the line that has cooled off. I would think this is common sense, but after reading reviews, the mouth breathers really are that fucking stupid.

Never do elec tankless heater. They use a LOT of electricity.

Where is Vertnut? He always says not to go tankless. Electric ones are pretty damn efficient tank heaters these days. Gas is even better. I did the GE heatpump (really wanted one from Airtap ATI66 but it was $1700. Stainless steel tank heatpump waterheater with lifetime tank warranty and 10 year parts/labor. Lowes had the GE on sale for $999 - 10% off coupon + 6 mo free financing.

He always said to stay away from elec. He didn't have anything bad to say about the gas ones.

I have the Rheem Marathon 85gal with no complaints. It's not as efficient as a heat pump water heater but much better than the 2 50gal builder grade they were going to put in.
