Any one here have a TV outdoors? I'm wanting to put one out back under the covered patio, where it won't see any direct sunlight or a chance of getting wet. After reading a few threads on AVS, most people recommend just getting something cheap at BB/Walmart because TVs made for outdoors are very expensive and made for direct sun and precipitation, which I couldn't care less about. I'm planning on installing an outlet on the patio ceiling, which I have access to from the attic above. I plan on running the wire from an existing outlet up there. One thing I haven't figured out is how to run the cable or mount the cable box. I have DirecTV and I see they now have a wireless Genie so I may go that route. Any suggestions or tips?

I went down your route and ending up just putting a wireless client(used with Genie) outside in a secure area(away from any wetness) and left my HDMI cable so I could hook/unhook with ease. I just bring my TV in from inside the house to the patio whenever I want to use the TV.
Since the TV is so light weight, it really isn’t that bad. I was going to build a plexi-glass box for the TV, but steered away from that idea. I do have surround sound outside so sound would not be an issue for me.

I had one under the patio (all the way up in the corner closest to the house) for years. Restaurants do it all the time. I put the outlet on a switch, so each time I went inside, I would just switch it off. My original concern was moisture jumping a circuit, so that's why I had the switch. Then, I was concerned about hot/cold, but I looked up the heat range an LCD can take. Let's just say we don't have a problem. I put one back under the covered patio once I moved, and it still works. In fact, the only problem I had was a mud marten kept building a nest behind the TV at my old house. I had to take the nest down every few weeks. Oh, and I have watched TV outside in rain storms with no problem. I think precip is a non-factor.

FWIW, I just put a cheap Samsung outside. When I moved, I cleaned that TV up and hung it in my youngest son's room. Later, I bought a Westinghouse and put outside. It works fine, and I never take it inside.
