  • Safe to do this?

I need to saw out a channel down the length of some 2x4's. The skinny side of the board, not the wide side. Its going to hold that thick lattice they sell.

Somebody told me to just put 2 more blades on my saw. So 3 blades. Is that a good idea? I dont have a router or a bit but I do have the saw. Router + bit = expensive.

Or if someone knows another method to mount lattice? Its going to be creating a fence of lattice. Im afraid if I use a weaker method the wind will just tear it down.

Stacking blades can work, but what you want is a dado set.

Dado will almost cost as much as a router.

Are you talking table saw or circular saw? Table saw, single blade, make your outside cuts and then work away at the center. Circular saw, you're insane. Stacking blades seems that it would fail miserably or land you in the E.R. or both.

Sounds like a great idea. Don't forget to drink heavily first and have a camera rolling.

If you have a table saw - just do a shallow cut, nudge the fence a fraction and do another cut...rinse/repeat until you have the channel size you want.

Or just get a router/router table with the right size bit.

If you don't have a table saw - they are worth the investment. Cheap or expensive they are all usable in my opinion.

                  .
This is what I do even though I have a table saw and a good dado blade set. It's more of a PITA to set up the blade stack. The only time I pull out the dado is when I have either a very wide channel to cut or lots of boards to cut channels into.

Actually it worked fine. My cabinet installer showed me how to do it and says it works fine in a pinch when you have no table saw
