I think I'll look into it a bit more. However my neighbor did say that he had the same deductible specific to hail. Something like that wouldn't kill me but it's always a PITA to part with that kind of cash. Especially when I'm going to be spending heavily on updates and repairs over the next few years..

Give me a call guys or shoot me an e-mail, some of the rates/deductibles I see some people post up are crazy!
If there is a pool, there is no issue.
Farmers/StateFarm/LibertyM./Hartford and few others had uprates over 30% as Tim stated on his policy.
Allstates new home plan actually dropped January 2014 as those carriers took significant rate increases.
We have great bundling discounts available to work down both home/auto/financials etc.
I've been able to save several board members $, not everyone but most of the people that have taken the time to reach out. Plus I will send you a free Visa gift card for your time just for giving us the opportunity to give you a quote, No Purchase Necessary.

2,000sf 4 bed 2 bath, no pool is right around $1,200/year for homeowners policy with bundle discount for having our cars insured through them as well."Laws that forbid the carrying of arms...disarm only those who are neither inclined nor determined to commit crimes...Such laws make things worse for the assaulted and better for the assailants; they serve rather to encourage than to prevent homicides, for an unarmed man may be attacked with greater confidence than an armed man." - Thomas Jefferson, 1776

This is a result of all the catastrophies/hail storms over the last few years. Insurance companies have to get approval from the state board of insurance to raise rates over certain percentages. It takes a while to get all that stuff worked out but pretty much every insurer is raising rates to get back in the black.
BTW, most insurance companies will let you set different deductible amounts for different coverages. You can leave your all perils deductible at a higher amount and lower your wind/hail deductible. That's what I do. I leave all my deductibles at 2% of reconstruction cost most of the year and then just lower my wind/hail down to like $500 in the spring time.
