  • Anyone on here do any work with gas fireplaces?

I've decided I want to go with a gas log set up for my fireplace. Line is already run into it, though I don't have the key to turn it on. The opening is 37 inches across, and 27.5 inches high. Anyone have a hook up, or a place in dfw that would carry this stuff year 'round? Closer to Arlington, the better.

MCM furniture is going to be scattered throughout Arlington! Just kidding, gas is the way to go for me.

We bought our logs from Casual Living, the patio furniture/fireplace chain. I've shopped them all around and the price is usually pretty much the same across the board for anything of quality. I'm sure they carry them year round.

They had the best selection, and gave me a card for some independent guy that installed it for $79. Not to say I couldn't do it myself, but I don't fuck with anything that could possibly blow up my house.

Not to mention I think you can work them for a good 10-15% discount.

I would love to actually, but it wouldn't work the way my house is set up. I'll just have to covet Craig and Leah's.

You're going to lose a lot of heat going to gas. What is your reason for wanting to replace with decorative logs? Why not just use the gas to start your fire, then shut it off?

My gas logs heat up and put off quite a bit of heat, though not as much as a wood fire would. The biggest benefit is not having to deal with getting firewood and dealing with ashes.
