what would be the minimum concrete depth i could get away with for a concrete pad? thinking i want to do something in the 12x15 range maybe 15x20. only problem is there wouldn't be a way to get a concrete truck back there and that'd be a lot of mixing by hand i think. any tricks anyone can think of?

also does anyone know any alternatives to doing concrete that would look good? i thought about some kind of stone but dont know that i could afford anything like that. im wanting to do this on my own if possible.

4" is a standard depth for a pad. Wheelbarrow pushed by Mexicans is the way to do it

are those cement mixers from home depot worth it for a project like this or no?

Its up to you but 12x15 is 100 80lb bags + the mixer
15x20 is 167 80lb bags. That is just way to much work for me. I would never lug 8000-13500lbs of concrete from the store to the truck then from the truck to the back yard. Its 2-4 yards of concrete. Mexicans + concrete truck is the only way to go

What would something like this run with a crew doing it? Looks like I could get the flagstone around 900 and about 150-200 for other materials to complete it.

If you are going to build an outdoor kitchen, remember that you will need peers to support the heavy items like any rock work, fire pit, or columns for any type of covering.

The concrete is the cheapest part.

Small pad like that Im guessing $5-6/sq ft

The last hot tub pad we poured had a beam around the outside and made up with #5 rebar. This should support what you are looking to build. If you think it needs more structure run a beam down the center (form a cross) and that should be plenty

I did a 12 x12 building on a 6" deep pad. I rented one of those trailers you pull behind your truck. The easy part was the framing and rebar- fuck all that back breaking concrete work. Hire Mexicans or go with pavers or something you can do yourself in sections.

They've got this gas powered concrete buggy that looks like a big wheel barrow. I rented one to do my patio. It was cheap to rent and hauled 1/2 a yard I believe. Was going to use my tractor bucket but didn't want to rut up yard. Slab was 17x24
