What size house? We have 2200sqft. Electricity gets as high as $250 in the summer, as low as $75 in winter. Gas goes up to about 150 in the winter though.

Something isn't right with your system. You need to have someone check it. My rental property was not heating as well and something was wrong. I had someone check it. The unit was drawing double amperage, and it ended up having 2 of the heat strips bad. We replaced the heat strips, and the unit is functioning normally and much less power.

Well that is the highest I have ever seen. Even in August I'm only in the low 400's. Generally off peak months I average 250.

December spike may have had other factors like my girls being home from college and having every fucking light/tv/computer on in the house 24/7 but cold weather was a big factor.

FWIW, we have been in this house for a little over 2 years and haven't had an electric bill over $170. Most are in the $130-160 range.

Not sure who you get power from, but one other thing to check is the rate. The power companies often get you on a 1 year or 2 year deal at a price to 'lock in' for the term. Rates are lower now than they were 2 years ago, but the plan may default to a higher rate. My tenant was complaining to me about her power bill a few months ago. She sent me a screen grab of the bill from her phone app. She was paying almost 8 cents per kwH more than what the current rate was. Her bill went down substantially. Check your rate!

Holy shit. Now I'm not so pissed at ours. It was $490 for December, projecting about $400 for January. We also lowered the temp on the tstat a bit for January, keeping it at 69 degrees 24/7. We used to do 74 during the day and 71 at night.
