man those look good! I noticed your dewalt drills. Which ones are they? After attempting to build these tables with a very old 9 volt drill that lasted about 15 minutes of drilling pilot holes and screwing some pieces together, i had to ask my neighbor to borrow his 18 volt lithium porter cable and fell in love with them

I have been looking at the Dewalt 20v combo and a lot of reviews have been very positive

Thanks buddy! They're DeWalt Max 20v series, I have only owned them about a month but I have ZERO complaints. I think i paid $189 for the drill and impact, 2 batteries and a charger. I also got the jobsite radio / battery charger for $179 over xmas.

I always try to use 2 2x12s for the top on my shorter bench for heavy stuff and your vice can be mounted anywhere on it. You can beat the crap out of anything on it without any flexing also.

Also to save a few bucks I used 3/4 mdf for the bottom shelf and regular 3/4 ply for the top.

That is also a good idea. I did leave a lip over the edge on the taller table to add one when i go find a vice.

                  weekend workbench

Maybe I paid 199 then lol. I hate spending money, but tools are the exception. Good tools pay for themselves 10 fold

My vice isn't mounted in that picture but I have one from harbor freight that has been through at least 2 cross country moves and numerous benches and has nothing wrong with it. You may save a few bucks buying it there, and don't know of any real gains from buying a name brand one.

I do like the idea of hanging tools on the side like this grinder/buffer in the picture.

I like that grinder mounting, maybe a shade higher but good idea. My dad built a real elaborate bench with his radial arm saw and a few other tools integrated, it's pretty trick. I'll see if I can snag some pictures from him later this week

Yeah that is how I am now lol. Owning my first home and doing some small renovations and additions, i quickly noticed that using a cheap drill and other things have really been a pain in my ass lol.

As far as the vice goes, I feel the same way about harbor freight. They do have some awesome deals and I don't need a $100 vice or anything just something that is solid and can do the job. I have seen some at lowes for like 30 or 40 bucks. I'm sure i can get a better one but used off Craigslist.

I just bought my first house a few months ago, definitely feel you there.

Another tidbit for you to consider, pick up the harbor freight oscillating multi tool, it goes on sale for 15$ semi frequently. I used it twice already, once during my garbage disposal install and another time to remove base/moulding for a vanity install. You won't use it a ton, but it's fucking perfect for some jobs.

I haven't used any of their heavy tools except a lathe and it spun so i guess it worked alright lol. I would be hesitant until I felt it and could see how tight it feels, but a good 10" compound mitre by ryobi shouldn't be more than maybe 180? But will keep you from buying it twice.

If you get the multi tool, run it unloaded for about a minute, then let it cool down and do again once or twice more. That seems to help seat the brushes better and translates into the tool lasting a lot longer from what I have experienced
