Cordless tool set upgrade time..

There are so many cordless kit options these days. Mine current goes back to black and decker about 2005 vintage. Has always done me well. Drill is finally on its last leg.

What do you guys use or recommend. Is this ryobi 1 stuff any good? I have had some good luck with corded ryobi tools. Rigid stuff seems to be improving and hard to beat the lifetime warranty on everything. Then there is always Dewalt. I know they have great impact and drivers, but what about the rest of the tools. Would hate to have some dewalt and another brand of tools to keep up with also battery wise.

Decisions decisions! Input wanted!

I've got the 18v LiIon Makita set. It has performed flawlessly. Do not be fooled by the DeWalt 20v Max LiIon. It is still an 18v battery. The tools are capable of a 20v draw but you won't notice any difference between these or 18v tools. Beyond that, DeWalt continues to put out a high quality tool. IMO you won't go wrong with either, I just think Makita's are a bit better in quality.

I do think Ryobi has been building better tools of late but they still use lower quality materials in their tools. It's another one of those "get what you pay for" deals.

Milwaukee would be my 3rd choice behind Makita and DeWalt. I've only used them a few times but never owned anything other than their corded tools, which I like...

I am turned off to Ridgid. My hands on experience has been nothing but a number of bad LiIon batteries. I still like their corded tools but I avoid anything cordless.

What all Makita tools do you have? Do the torgue tools just eat through batteries or even have enough power to get the job done?

I have the Makita Lithiam IOn 18V with impact and drill bice set works well. It has plenty of juice to take off side cases on motorcycles and so forth but not enought for final torq on stuff but I also like to recheck as not to break anything off.

My FIL gave me a Hilti 18 volt drill set for Christmas. I haven't had the chance to use it yet but it seems real nice. I used his all the time without any issues.

What kind of tools do you want to get? Lithium is the only way to go, porter cable has a ton of tools that run off of batteries and they aren't too pricey. Makita makes some great tools as well as dewalt. Hitachi has a lifetime warranty as well as rigid, but you have to send hitachi to a service center.

I think I have almost every Ryobi tool that's out and I really like them. They are not quite up to Dewalt standards but they work great for around the house. The lithium batteries were a great improvement over the old. I use the screw gun, flashlight, and portable radio the most.

Yes all the time. They work great. It just seams the Dewalt stuff has a little more torque but a lot more money. I have the right angle drill, skill saw, jig saw, grinder, vacuum, nail gun/stapler, radio, light etc etc. Now when I built my patio I bought corded skill saw but that was it.

I just bought Milwaukee to use every day at the shop. About a month into it and no problems. Before this set I had a Bosch 12v kit and loved it. Actually took it home to use it as have the Milwaukee 18v stuf at work.

Amazon is a good place to start. They usually beat Home Depot or Lowes pricing.

Makita is taking another $25 off that price on both websites. That is an instant discount taken at checkout, not a rebate.

BTW, I also keep an eye on camelcamelcamel.com to track prices on Amazon. That Makita was actually as low as $265 back on Nov 22.

I love my Dewalt 18v tool kits. They have performed with out issues under heavy use. One of the drills is now 13 years old. The 2 13 year old batteries have since been replaced, but that seems to be expected.
