  • Anyone ever had an asphalt drive put in?

Just curious if anyone ever had an asphalt driveway put in instead of or over gravel. How much? How long do they last?

Here is usually runs $1.50 sqft and up with the asphalt gypsies looking to toss something down on some well packed caliche being on the low end and going up from there.

      Look into recycled asphalt
      One day at a time.

Im looking into a "tar and chip" which uses crushed granite (or any other smooth rock) rather than asphalt. Will need 7000sq driveway done next year.

I am curious on this as well. I have a dirt drive which absolutely sucks. My shop is behind the house which is dirt as well. I definitely can't afford to concrete the whole thing. Anyone know someone that does this for a living? Could use a quote.

Just spent 27k on a new parking lot. Not sure of sq ft. The guy was from Waxahachie.

There are some guys down here in Houston that will do it .75 a sqft as long as you already have a rock base.

we had recycled asphalt laid over road base at the shop. It works pretty well, but the road base needs to be packed pretty well or it will all get pushed down into the dirt.

We did this in front of one of our buildings a few years ago. It doesn't look as nice as the asphalt, but it has held up well and that is with 12-30k lb trucks and a fork lift driving on it daily.

Interesting.. I have seen some high end homes with tar and chip and I thought it looked great. May be the rock selection. Also, Id do concrete borders

Not sure if they still do it but years ago we laid down shingle tabs on my grandparents driveway. After a couple of summers it is packed really smooth and pretty solid. Don't remember the price but it was pretty cheap for a couple dump truck loads just had to spread it our self. No dust and a nice smooth drive. Also does not wash away since it sticks to itself.
