We have a Maytag Quiet Series 300, and it's loud as fuck, runs forever, and doesn't clean well even with the "good" soap. With the new phosphorous free soap, it won't clean shit.
It came with the SS appliance package with this house and it's soon to be replaced.
I've also already had to replace the pump in it. $70 and the appliance stores show the wrong part number.

In all seriousness, we have a Bosch and that fucking thing is so quiet, I have opened it when it was running. ONLY issue we have is water spots from the shitty water we have. Built like a tank, shutting the door sounds like my safe closing. My wife loves it.
we have a kitchenaide that is a coupe of years old. has extra sound dampening and is pretty quiet. much quieter then the previous one we had. it has the stainless tub as well
anything new and interesting on the dishwasher front? i need to get a new one. the old isnt cleaning as well as i think it should. only requirement is that its stainless. thanks!

Just bought the Bosch 800 series with hidden controls. I like everything about it but one thing. The third rack is awesome, and even though we've only had it a few weeks, I can't see going back to a 2 rack dishwasher. The only time I can hear it running is if dishes clank, or I'm in the kitchen when it dumps the wash water. It's the 44dba model. We got it on sale and paid $899.
My only complaint, is that it never seems to dry inside the dishwasher. I've never used a drying agent like Jet Dry. I've never needed to. The previous dishwasher (25-30 year old Maytag) had no problems drying the dishes. I can run it through a cycle, and not empty it until the next day. The dishes and inside of the door will still be wet. I don't know if they turned the wick way down on these new models for the sake of "energy efficiency" or what, but it's weird. I'm not sure if I need to call for service or what.
And I'll second Buzzo's comment. Sears is the way to go. Yesterday we bought a Kenmore Elite french door refrigerator. It was marked down $1300, 0% for 12 months, 5% off total if paid off in under 12 months, and it was tax free weekend. All in all we saved over $1500. There is also the Scratch & Dent store over in Addison. There are some huge savings to be had if you can live with some blemishes. Some of them are even hidden.
EDIT: Apparently the Bosch doesn't have a heated drying cycle, as is the case with a lot of the newer dishwashers. Rinse/Drying agent is a must.
I ended up getting the hidden control Bosch Ascenta in stainless. I watched it at Lowes online for a few weeks as the price fluctuated greatly. Ended up getting it for $468 after a 10% off coupon. I just checked and it's at $566.19. We're happy with it. To me, it's fairly quiet, but not as quiet as I think they would like you to believe it is.
Like Brent said, Bosch doesn't use a heating element for the drying cycle, it uses condensation drying. It will take some trial and error to figure out the right time to unload. Unload too soon and they're still wet. Wait too long and they're wet all over again. We've figured out that about an hour after the cycle is done works best. If we can't get to it then, we leave the door cracked a few inches to keep them dry.
Just bought a Bosch as well. Lowes had the 800 series on sale. 44db is so dam quiet. It has a red light on front that shines on floor to let you know its running. On "auto" it runs almost 2 and 1/2 hours! It cleans the living shit out of anything you put in it!
The forums talked about not opening the door until well after the cycle is over. This helps the wet dish problem. I turn mine on before bed, and the dishes are clean and dry the next morning.
Are you both using Jet Dry? Just curious if it helps.
I am, but I've always used it so I don't know what it's like without it. If we run it at night before bed and don't open the door until the next morning, enough condensation builds up on the roof to fall and get everything slightly wet again. The extended drying button or whatever it's called may help that scenario.
