  • Cheap patio/ deck

I've got roughly a 10x20 area next to my existing covered patio that I want to put a surface down on. What's the cheapest material to use that will last until the sun devours the earth? It doesn't need to be fancy. Just want to put a big table and chairs on it, 8 person seating or so.

The most durable for the price is probably concrete, IMO, though you know it's not very cheap. The composite decking is bad ass but pricey. Wood is tough because of the weathering. You really "should" stain it every year, which is a bit of a PITA. But that is what will make it last. I have neglected ours.

There is one option I think I mentioned before, (if you're against concrete) that maybe cheaper. I've been seeing it a lot. People put up a border with crush granite fill in it. Seems pretty solid.

I personally have only seen it on driveways though.

I would prefer to have that covered with rock of some sort, to avoid tracking it in on your shoes.

Stamped concrete is the way to go.

I'm not against anything except spending a small fortune.

Concrete is not cheap now, but it is in the long run. With the upkeep of other options, you'll spend more in the long run.

idea, i am not.sure.on cost but crushed concrete might help keep cost on using full amount of fresh concrete.

If you weren't suffering from back issues, I would say 2"-4" flagstone with crushed gravel in between. But the labor to have that done for what you want will cost you as much as doing a stamped concrete.
Fuck you. We're going to Costco.

Do like I did at our Hurst house. Some flagstone, sand, cement and you're good to go! I built that all myself, had the rocks and sand delivered, but I also had to deal with a 7 inch drop as it went towards the back fence, so a lot of build-up was required.

I'd do concrete, shouldn't cost for than $5 sq/ft if the ground is pretty level for a non load bearing slab. Your talking 3-4 yards of crete and labor. Never do it again.

Just measured it out and it is 11x16.

                            Eric,

Sorry for the delay. To say I've been busy is an understatement. I'm also rusty with this software from work. This should give you an idea of what you're looking at. Let me know if this is what you're thinking or what else you want, and I can do more with it. I didn't put the existing columns in (tired of trying to make it have the right sized cover -- I'm rusty). Hope this helps. I just drew it to look like concrete bottom. If you want to use deck boards and cover the existing patio plus the new part, let me know that and I can change it and provide a materials list. Mike C would be the guy to get it done. Late!

Ha! That's pretty badass. The door is only about a foot or two away from the patio wall so the hot tub wouldn't fit there though. Thanks man!
