  • Pool Waterfall. DIY???

Has anyone built a waterfall for their pool? I'm not wanting a huge one but I do want one a bit more permanent than some of the cheapy ones you see at the pool.com stores.

Picture of the pool in question.

    Area I want the fall(s)

Thoughts, suggestions, etc. My knee jerk is to build them out of the same rock that is surrounding the pool.

For $40.00 Sean will pee on you while you're in the pool and sing Don't go chasing waterfalls.

Another site specific "thing" I don't get. Oh well, I'm used to it I suppose.

my buddy just took out their waterfall due to it leaking. If they ran it, it would drop the water level by a couple inches, and the water was going under the decking and around the pool basin. That side of the pool is now lower than the others.

If you are going to do it, you'd better make damn sure all that water is going into the pool, it will be a hell of a lot more expensive to fix the pool if it isnt right.

Do you have a polaris or similar in that area that you can use to run it?

Exactly. There's a pump outlet real close. Should only have to lift the water about 2-3 feet. I tried the lift with some PVC and it worked well. No real way to determine if this will "hurt" the system or not.

most of the waterfalls have a separate pump and drain at the bottom of the pool. they are usually designed and configured into the pool during the planning stages. Im sure you can somehow add one on but dont skimp on it. it needs its own pump to flow enough water to operate correctly

Thanks for the info QIK. Unfortunately, we didn't live here during the planning stage.... So... now we're trying to make the most of it. On a positive note: I've found out that I have a cousin-in-law who does this stuff professionally and wants to "help". If that translates into free ideas, design, and some labor I'll be STOKED!!! If it comes to pass that we do build, I'll post pics and discussions here on how we did it. As always, the "peanut section comments" are humorous and perhaps it will help someone in the future.

Look into a polaris booster pump and bury a dedicated line.
