They can, my Dad has a few huge ones in his 1/2 acre pond. He lives in PA and it freezes hard enough you can ice skate on it in the winter. His koi are almost 20 years old.

they go down to the bottom of the water and are good to go. the just can't be too small or else they wont make it. thats assuming the pond doesnt freeze solid.

These Motherfuc........ were just hacks holy shit. My cabinet guy called me in today and asked me WTF he was looking at. They actually built around what appeared to be a water heater vent up and out of the roof in the corner. It really just stopped a few feet from the ground. Plus the upper cabinet I had thought I might throw up in the garage. Yeah uhhhhh the backs were actually the sheetrock on the walls. I should just mud, texture and paint myself since not much will be showing after he puts in my cabinets. Not one bottom cabinet was attached, oh and did I mention the sink was about 6 inches off center from that window?

It's really not surprising about the cabinets backing. What year was the house built? Hell, I missed that the first pics were pre tear down, I thought it looked nice beforehand. LOL Not really my taste, but nice.

1985. Yeah those cabinets were jacked up. The ends looked as if someone cut them off with a machete. There was no outer leg by the dishwasher so that end just sat on top of it and warped. The metal paneling was falling off when we moved in. Had a little water damage by the fridge. The soffits were all jacked up looking. It appears they had a oven where the microwave was and that piece was just crammed in there. There was a useless camera system above the microwave. After watching them knock it out and seeing him build my new cabinets I am glad we are getting this done. I hate half ass shit. I will be out about 5k including floors, sink, countertops, and paint so not bad. He gave me a good trade allowance for my Harley.

                      Any updates?

I like the pergola / patio. That's what we need. Did you do the concrete too? Do you mind if I ask the dimensions and cost?

Edit.. Disregard cost and slab questions, found the answers in your posts.

                      Looks good!

All I have left to do is the back splash and some plugs. I have a friend whose wife is the master of the backsplash so she is going to come do it for free. She has everything but the tile and she said I could get it for about 100.00. Glad the cabinet guys broke my light that I was procrastinating changing. One of the black wires had snapped and was arcing when I flipped the switch.
