  • Need a plumber for a (probably) simple repair...

Our master shower is dripping. Has been for a couple weeks, and I'm tired of listening to it and have too much shit to do to try to tear it apart and look at it myself. In Frisco, any recommendations?

You just need some o-rings in the valve. They are not hard to replace.

    1. Turn off the water at the meter.
    2. Turn on the shower and bleed off the pressure.
    3. Remove the handle to the valve.
    4. Remove all the covers, etc on the valve.
    5. Your shower valve is open and no pressure right?
    6. Remove the nut that holds the front of the valve on. You will get somewhat wet here.
    7. You should see like two line holes with rubber o-rings. Remove the rubber o-rings
    8. Go to home depot and buy the same size o-rings and re-install
    9. Clean off the sealing surface

way easy... you could replace the entire setup for what a plumber would charge you for a callout

I'm pretty sure I could do it...but I've never jacked with one of these type of valve things before:

Same steps for that one? That's not the exact one, but its like it. Pulls up to turn on, then turn left/right for hot/cold.

can't be too difficult. Might need a small allen wrench to get the handle off

I'll take a crack at it when I get home tonight. Turn water off at the meter you say? Never done that, before. Guess I'll get to looking where it is.

On the surface plumbing is easy. The last 2 jobs I've tried on my own I've had to get a plumber out. Both times the plumber struggled. Seized parts, corrosion and such can make it a PITA.

                  I use a local guy,

...he subs out the work for some things. I will say that he gets them cheaper than you do. Last was a water heater replacement. Plumber was 500 dollars more directly than through Ed (owner of Unique Services).

I've referred him to several people and all are happy with the outcome. He may not do all the work, but he makes sure it is done well and inspects everything.

I'll try it myself and see what happens.

I've replaced the O rings like that before and it was pretty easy, though it was on individual hot and cold, not the blended piece like the OP. That said, they are usually made to be serviced like that, so I doubt you will have an issue. Make sure you know the brand before you go too, that will help in finding what you need at the Depot.

I just replaced the sink faucet and drain in our main bathroom yesterday. It was a PITA due to the space limitations and corrosion, but not complicated at all.

Google is your friend for stuff like this, BTW:

So he works as a middle man?

Im looking for someone to move some drains (rough plumbing) in my remodel. I really wish I could find someone to do it on the side for $25/hr rather than pay a plumbing company

He does somethings himself and subs out others with good subs. A lot of framing I see him do, but AC/Plumbing/Roofing he subs out.

I thought that really sucked at first, but he does a good job of making sure you're happy and will lay the smackdown on a sub to make sure everything is good.

We've been happy and I've referred 3 people so far for fair sized jobs (for a home) and everyone has been satisfied or down right happy.

Edit: He is not 'cheap' per se though. Competitive and fair priced, but if you find a group of illegals he won't be able to compete with that. However, he has a warranty on his work and frankly his word is good enough.
