  • Painting A Bedroom

We repainted our whole house and only 1 bedroom in the house wasnt all white, it was pink from the previous owner who had a daughter..

Like a dumbass, i messed it up by not sealing the edges from the wall to the ceiling with tape.

I've tried repainting parts of the ceiling where it is messed up with white paint, but it still comes out a different color.

    How would i fix this?

Cliffnotes: repainted a pink room to white, resulted in walls turning grayish white. Edges were not taped so it some of the grayish color got on the ceiling and is having trouble turning the ceiling back to normal white.

I would think that if you used a good primer first, and a couple of coats, it should cover it.

Ya, we had some bizarre colors, a coat or two of Killz primer then paint and we've had no problems.

If you are going to have to paint again to cover the pink, then just repaint the ceiling while you're at it. Really not that much more work since you're already going to be in there painting the walls anyway.

My home office was some awful blue color when I bought the house so I used one coat of Killz odorless and when over that with two coats of the green I wanted and then went over that with a faux marble glaze and called it a day.

You can try and color match ceiling and edges which will get it very close, but it will always bug you because you will be able to see it even though nobody else can.

Also, next time if you decide not to do the tape, which is also how I paint on the wall/ceiling and wall/floor borders, you need to either slow down or learn how to finesse the brush a little better. Not trying to be an ass, just trying to help you from having to go through that again.

Why would you not tape the ceiling? Seems like too much risk for a ten minute fix.

you are right... I think its the fact we put so much effort in the whole house
                (mainly the living room..show below)

We had one room left and was like ' lets get this shit over with.'

This room has been like this since we moved in April of 2010..haha

I feel your pain, I've been there on numerous houses we've redone. It's like you can see the finish line and your adrenaline just takes over.

I find a slow steady hand does a better job for me than spending more time applying tape just to have it bleed under the edge.

Anytime you're changing colors, primer is recommended. If your final color is something other than white, consider having the primer tinted to help with top coat coverage.

                          Or, hire a mexican.

So just repaint over the walls with Killz(2 coats) then repaint it with white and that will fix the color?
