thats why i am wanting to talk this through. what if i get a few rail road ties and almost build like a small retaining wall and set the ibeams on top of that. maybe drill a few holes down to hardpan and set some upright in concrete

If you want it done right contract an engineer.

If you build a retaining wall it will help, however, I think the only way you are going to be able to make it sound is to use I beams that are 5-10 ft longer than the span you need and set them on concrete piers that are drilled and poured 10-15ft deep. That would be closer to the correct way to go about it

drillshaft/ piers..10ft might be just deep enuff 24" dia. . include drilling, rebar, and concrete times i would say 3 d.s. for each side. the cap would need to be abit longer and wider then the d.s. the cap sit on top of the d.s. can be whatever height you want will also need rebar and concrete. but just like said above, if it blocks the creek wen it flood then maybe you might wanna raise the bridge higher. my brother boss is doing the same thing using and old bridge truss they took out and keep it complete. ill see if i can get pictures

Another option for the bridge itself is to find a crew that demos old bridges for the counties. A buddy used to do this and they usually kept the bridges and resold for just this purpose.

He's out of the biz, or I might have a hookup.

You would still need the piers/ anchors.

They had one they were selling here in Hunt County. I think it sold for ~$800. Not sure what it would cost to transport something like that

yea, but having to wait for one to pop up and talk to the company that is taking it down. you would probably have to ask them if they can save the whole thing. also he would need a one span bridge, anything more will be too much extra work. if you know good welder maybe you can frame up a bridge frame if you say its only about 15' wide.

we are better at burning than we are at building.

I may have missed it, but what length/width? I'd imagine about 8' wide, but length?

I have a similar but smaller thing and am NOT going to anchor it in the bottom at all, just on the "banks".

I would put 4-6 anchors (2-3 on each end) and they should be about 2-3' down IMO. Solid concrete and anchored to the wood/steel that you build. This maybe tricky depending on how level it is and such.

My thought process is that sometimes mine overflows.

                      a. It won't be down in the water
                      b. It'll more likely flow over/around it if not anchored in it

You could dig it out and use 4x4s, 6x6s or 8x8s, deck that with 2x6s and be done. it would be fairly level and at 8' width you could have 2 per side and be good. Just need to use good hardware and maintain the wood. If dug out for the beams, it'll be level for anything you're doing.

Just read again, don't see measurements.

Would like to have it 8' wide. Probably just put the ibeams about tire width apart. the span i am looking at is about 12' so i would say add at least 3-4' per side for stability sake. so probably 16-20' beams

not 100% on this, another problem. Want it fairly level so was thinking some sort of wood.

If you use steel I beams, I would weld in runners and use extruded metal grate
